A STREET FIGHT.

As a result of an argument between Dave M'Donald, William Stanley, and some others in Prince Albert road at 11 p.m. on April 17, the two men named were before the court on cliarges of using threatening behaviour whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned. Sub-inspector I'.cclca said that the pair had - ‘a good go,” amt when the constable interviewed them next day, lie found each had a black eye and sundry other decorations. . In answer to the magistrate, Stanley said ho had had only two beers that day, while MDonald reported that he “ hadn t had very many.’” Each was fined, 20s, with costs (4s 6d). ALLEGED THEFT. James Duncan andi John Moloney were charged with the theft of ten sacks of barley, of a total value of £7 10s, the property of Charles Wilson. Mr B. S. Irwin appeared for Moloney. Subnnspector Eccles asked for a remand far a week. The men buy] been .arrested on Saturday afternoon, and a remand was desired in order to go into the facty, of the case. It wag likely there would be another charge of theft against Dunctm. Ilia Worship remanded the accused till next Mondav. and allowed bail (in each, case) of £IOO, with one surety of £IOO or two of £SO each. BY-LAWS TRANSGRESEI).

Charles Hitchcocks, for driving a spring cart, without lights, was Jjned 6s, with costs (7s). —Robert Hill and, Edward Ward, for riding unlighted bicycles, were similarly dealt with.—-Henry Harraway was fined 10s, with costs, for allowing his chimney to catch fire.—For allowing a horso to wander, Charles Buchanan was fined 10s, with costs. MAINTENANCE.

John Higgins was charged with disobedience of an ofdcr for the support of his wife and two .children. —Mr \V. G, Hay appeared for tho wife, who also made an application tor an increase of the order. —Defendant, it was stated, had paid £lO into court since the information was issued, this covoviug-Jie amount of arrears. —Defendant offered to pay 35s per week, an increase of ss.—Mr Hay agreed to ocispt this, and His Worship made an order accordingly. Costs (£1 Is) wore allowed against defendant..

Application was made for a maintenance, separation, and guardianship order against Harold William Bennett.—Mr C. J. I/. White appeared for defendant and Mr W. G. Hay for complainant, tho latter stating that the wife was at present in hospital.—After hearing defendant, His Worship decided that on the evidence before hint there was no willful failure to maintain. —An order for Ifja a week was made for the support of defendant’s child.
