The Rev.' J. Dawson, secretary of the New Zealand Alliance, arrived from the North yesterday. Miss Doris Ross has been engaged to sing at Oarnaru on Saturday evening. Dr Kenneth Ross, who returned to the dominion this week, was a passenger by the north express yesterday from Lyttelton, and is staying at Warrington for a few days. During his eighteen months’ absence" from New Zealand Dr Ross has been assistant medical officer at the Bristol Eye Hospital, and has filled appointments also at the Central London Hospital, the Mooriields Hospital, and at hospitals in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. A 1 Gazette ’ notification states that the appointment of Mr James Alexander Roberts as Consular Agent for Italy in Dunedin has been provisionally recognised. At last night's meeting of the Hospital Board Dr Howlands was granted leave of absence from the board and from bis hospital duties, in order to visit the Old Country. Dr Nowlands’s services on the board were specially eulogised by the chairman and Mr Talhoys. Drs O’Neill and Batchelor, who propose visiting America, were also granted leave of absence from their hospital duties. Rev. C. H. Laws, 8.A., of Auckland, president of the Methodist Conference, arrives in Dunedin to-day to conduct several meetings and ipeet the local officials of the Methodist churches. Mr A. Chiaroni, who recently returned from a two years’ visit to England and Italy, intends holding an exhibition of fine art at the Art Gallery next week.
