GALLOWAY BRIDGE OPENING
[BpSCUL 10 THK ‘STAtt.'j CLYDE, April 28. Glorious weather yesterday induced abig crowd from all pails of tho district to attend the official opening of the Galloway bridge. 51r Ritchie, county chairman, presided. Congratulatory speeches were delivered‘by the Hon. G. J. Anderson, sfr Horn, M.P., 51r G. B. Spain, Mr Black (county engineer), and Mr T. Wilkinson (the contractor). Sir Win. Fraser, who officially opened tho bridge, was given n. very flattering reception. He. spoke feelingly of his long connection ■with the district, referring to tho fact that early in 1862 he first looked down from tho mountain on the site where they were that day assembled. As one who had been connected with the early settlement of tho district, ho assured them that his heart was with them, and that he would always do what he could for them. He was satisfied that irrigation would soon result in Central Otago coming into its own. In the evening a dinner was held at Alexandra, a. concert and social following in the Town Hall.
