PARISH OF HOLY CROSS

THE ANNUAL AIEETING. The Rev. A. Wingtield presided at the annual meeting of the parishioners of Holy Cross Church, St. Kilda, which was held last evening. The hon. treasurer (Mr H. W. S. Hellyer), in moving the adoption of the annual report, referred to the satisfactory state jf the finances of the parish. The only jebfc that tho parish had was £250 on the church, and he saw no reason for hurry to pay that off. Mr Jacobsen seconded the motion, and advocated tho immediate purchase of a pipe organ. The vicar thanked the parishioners as a whole, and especially the various church organisations. He also laid stress on the harmony that existed throughout the parish, complimenting the vestry on its management of the parish finances. He made reference to the work done hy Mr Jf. Mulligan as lay reader, superintendent of the Sunday school, and choirmaster, who has left to live in Southland. The motion was carried without further discussion. , The annual report contained the following clauses : —“The vicarage property, which cost over £I,OOO, is noiv paid for. The total receipts from till sources was £1,029 13s, and the expenditure, including the payments on the vicarage account, was £I,OOO 19s 6d, leaving a small credit balance. Several successful social gatherings were held during the year, which were tho means of bringing the members of the congregation together and encouraging the social intercourse that should exist in a parish. In tho near future it will he necessary to have a really good organ, and it is for the parishioners to say whether the efforts of next year should be devoted to that object or to" creating a. nucleus of a fund for a permanent Sunday school, which sooner or later must be built. Throughout tho past year special appeals for the Melanesian Missions, the Boys’ Orphanage, and other objects have been well responded to,” The election of office-bearers resulted as follows Vicar’s churchwarden, Air D. Harris Hastings; people’s warden and hon. treasurer, Air H. W. S. Hellyer; vestry—Major Parker, Messrs -TI. W. Holmes, W. H. Dunning, W. Pullar, H. Clark, M. Priest, AI. Scott, R. Salter, C. Oaten, and P. J. Priest.
