FRUIT AND PRODUCE
Messrs Bray Bros, (of Dunedin), Ltd., report as follows for the week; — Tho market lias been short supplied with first-quality chaff, which is readily placed from £4 12s 6d to £4 17s 6d a ton, sacks extra, ex truck. A few small lots of new chaff have been on tho market, but tho condition has been poor, and sales have been difficult to make at payable prices. _ Small consignments of potatoes continue to come forward, and the demand is a. little weaker. Tho market to-day is from £7 to £8 a ton for first-quality tubers, sacks included. Sales have been made for forward delivery, but values have advanced about 10s per ton. It is reported that crops north and south aro very light. This is a plentiful supply of fowl wheat on the market, and sales have been made at 5s per bushel ex truck, Dunedin. Values aro expected to come still lower. Oats are not offering freely, and good heavy Cartons are readily placed from 2s 8d to 2s lOd per sacks extra. There are only limited shipping inquiries, and business has been done at 3s Id for A’s and 2s lid for B’s, f.0.b., s. i. Supplies of dessert fruit have fallen off during tho last few days, and ripe fruit is meeting with a keen inquiry. Supplies of tomatoes have eased off a little tho last couple of days, but are meeting with a slow sale from 2d to 2Jd per lb. Good colored local are inquired for, and these are realising satisfactory prices. Supplies of pears aro on tho light side, and dessert lines coming forward aro selling up to 11s per case. Nectarines aro in short supply, and these aro realising big money, also peaches. Local grapes aro selling readily, also consignments that are reaching us daily from Kakanui. Choice dessert plums are meeting with a ready sale, and good • jam fruit is selling fairly well. Dessert apples, Cox’s Orange and Ribstons, are not arriving freely, and the market remains firm at about 12s a case. Supplies of cooking apples aro coming forward, and these aro realising from 6s to 7s, There is a keen inquiry for stamped eggs, and values aro firm to-day at Is 9d a dozen. Bacon pigs are in very short supply. Good dairy and separator pats are wanted. _ The following prices were realised during tho woolc; Sparrowbill Oats, 3s. Oats.—Gartens, 3s.
