Tho crime is baffling the police owing to tho absence of an apparent motive. It is believed that an expert burglar bad gained access to tho hotel and planned tho theft of valuable jewels belonging to another lady guest at the hotel, but entered the wrong room and struck Lady White because she awoke, and he feared that sho would giro the alarm.
