CRICKET COMPETITIONS.

Sir,-—I notice in to-day’s papers tho draw for the third grade cricket competition. I note that Orange 0 and St. Kikla are drawn to ineot at Culling Park on Saturday, March 18. Tho same position occurs as what took place last year. St. Kikla were on top in this competition, having played Christian Brothers and Albion combined, tlrree times, if not four, before they got to that positon, yet the Match Committee placed these two teams once again to contest the top place. Was it fair to St. Kikla to play them when they had really won tho competition? I think nut, especially when the St. Kikla Cricket Club was composed of young players anxious to get to tho top, and so get knocked back to second place. We like to see this keenness in young fellows, especially when tho club is trying to regain its old prestige after so many lean years that it has tho same thing taking place again. It has played Grange 0 twice already, beating thorn the last match, putting St. Kikla in fop position, yet tho Match Committee draws St. Kilda for Saturday. St. Kikla should have an easier match to contest than this. 1 feel suro tho association would like to see cricket flourish in the south end of tho town tho same as in the north; but if tho committee want to put a damper on tho young fellows, I think it is going the right way to attain that end. It will be a. great stimulus to south end cricket if the shield goes to St. Kilda. I trust it is nut too late yet to arrange tho draw differently.— I am, etc., Keep Them Interested. March 16.
