SWIMMING
KIWI AMATEUR CLUB,
The Kiwi Amateur Swimming: Club held As first carnival in tiio Municipal Baths hst evening. It is a newly-formed club, with members of both Boxes. There waa a good attendance, echoolboyo being much a evidence, and the various events wore "allowed with great enthusiasm. The Albany Street School Band, under Mr J. Ucnnie, was in attendance, and rendered several meet enjoyable eductions. There was intense excitement amongst the juveniles while the public schools’ relay championship was being decided. This race was for teams of four selected from last year’s Standard IV. boys, and sixteen boys faced the starter. Each swam once across the baths. The heats were won by George Street and St. Clair, and the final wne decided in favor of St. Clair. The cup wee afterwards presented to the winning team. An interesting event was the exhibition of diving, which was an exhaustive test of standing, running, and fancy diving from the low and high boards. This event was won by W. Cunningham, with 49 marks out of a possible of 50. A special exhibition of fancy diving was also given. Mr D. Bannatyne represented the Swimming Association, and acted as referee and superintendent. The other officials were Messrs J. M’Phee, G. Buchan, and S. Westwood, judges ; Mr Davidson, starter; Mr M. Watson, starter’s steward; Messrs G. Westwood and G. Frye, competitors’ stewards; Miss G .A. Meredith, secretary and ladies’ steward ; Mrs Fraser, ladies’ steward; Mr Jenkins, handicapper. D. Herman gave valuable assistance. DU NED IX LADIES’ CLUB TO-NIGHT,
At the Municipal Baths to-night the Dunedin Ladies’ Swimming Club, in conjunction, with other local clubs, will submit a, very attractive programme. Tim D.L.A.S.C., one of the largest in New Zealand, is the oldest ladies’ club of this city, and, if not yet possessed of a real record-breaker, lias the makings of champions in a very proficient group of young lady swimmers. Last year's championships, which were held in this city, evidently stimulated swimming to a largo extent, with the result that swimmers, under Professor Olds’s instructions, are able to show a marked improvement in the crawl stroke. The events to-night are novel and numerous, and include a fancy dress parade under the directorship of Mrs Fraser. The following are tho competitors for the various events;
