Matthews (president) occupied the chair at tho annual meeting of tho Gymnastic Hockey Club, held last night. in moving tho adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman remarked that the season had been very successful from a sporting point of view. They were runners-up to tho University for tho Gil ray Cup, and to tho Technical College for the Williamson Cup. If members would only take up training more generally, he was convinced that they would probably win at least tho M'Loan Cup. The balance-sheet represented a very healthy state of affairs. Their object was not to make money, and if they got through the season ami had n little money in hand at the end they did very well. Mr J. Hosg (vice-president), in seconding the motion, urged members to fix a I night for practice when all could attend, as constant practice was necessary if they were to succeed. The play last season was of a very high standard. The fact that seven men out of a team of eleven were selected to represent the province in nn interprovincial match spoke for itself. He hoped they would get to work at once and arrange for a visit to Oamaru or Timaru, which would g.-t them into harness.. The social side of the club had been very well looked after, and had proved an excellent factor in tho success of the club. As Mr L. Mitchell was about to retire from tho position of secretary, bo desired to pay a very warm tribute to him for the manner in 'which he had carried out. his duties. Other members having warmly praised Mr Mitchell for the manner in which he had discharged his duties and looked after the interests of the club, the motion was carried.
Mr Mitchell remarked that, if he kid satisfied mombers he was pleased and it repaid him for anything ho had done., Ho was quite sure that Mr Patterson, Ms successor, would carry out the duties pertaining to the position quito as well, if not better. Tho election of officers resulted as fallows :—President, Mr W. H. Matthews (ro-elected); vice-presidents—Messrs C. W. Hayward, A. Fleet, J. Long, J. P. Northey, P. B. Footo, G'. R. The matter of arranging for tho opening of tho season, was left in the hands of' the committee, and a recommendation was made that a match be arranged with Oarnaru on the 23rd irast., if possible, and also to invite a team froru Chiistclmrch to visit Dunediu during the season. It was resolved to place a record on the minutes of the high appreciation by members of tho able manner in which: Mr Mitchell had discharged the secretarial duties, and regret that 'illness compelled him to retire from tho position.
