OTAGO MOTOR CLUB

The usual monthly meeting of tire Otago Motor Club was held in the Imperial Buildings last evening, the president Mr A. E. Ansell) in the chair. SOUTH ISLAND UNION. The Chairman reported on the quarterly meeting of the South Island Motor Union held at Timaru, which he attended as the club's representative. The subject of pure petrol, he said, was discussed, and it was decided to ask the Government to appoint an inspector who would inspect the petrol distributed from the garage bowsers. A long discussion also took place on the regulation of traflio and as to whether local bodies should pay for the police supervision, and it was decided that this practice should bo slopped. Passing stationary tramcars caroo up for discussion, and a special committee was appointed to go into the matter. The meeting was of opinion that there should bo 'uniform bylaws throughout New Zealand.—Mr M. Stevenson said that it would bo a good I thing if the South Island Union and the New Zealand Union had a conference once a year, and after discussion it was agreed to send a 7'cmit to the annual meeting of the South Island Union recommending this proposal. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Southland Motor Association taking exception to the Otajro Club working the Gore svp.i. —The President said that the Otago I'mb had no intention of "jumping Southland's claim." It was simply trying to werK in •\yith the -Southland Association. Several letters wero received from the matrons of the various orphanages thanking the club for the enjoyable outing given to the children on Saturday, February 25. Eight new members were elected. Leave of absence was granted to Mr A. L. Fogo, who intends visiting Australia. GENERAL. Messrs A. E. Ansell and J. Roberts were appointed to attend the opening of Stewart's Creole bridge at Island Block in about two weeks. Mr R. E. Heyward gave an interesting address on 'Ford Ignition,' and Mr E. K. Denton (Australia) lectured on 'Dimming Headlights.' Both speakers were heartily applauded for their instructive addressee.
