The ninth minimi conference of the Southern Districts .hire Brigades Association was lit'lcl. in the Uouncil Chambers, Core, on Monthly even! when the following were present: —President, Captain J. A. Armit (Rnslyn) ; vice-presidents —Lieutenant C. Wells (Invercargill) mid T. Bevercdge (Tloslyn); secretary, D. M. Wilding (Mornington); ikl«gaU-s—Secre-tary Hitchcock (S. Kilda), Fireman Williams (Oainaru), Captain Morrison _ (Hillside), F. W. Pettit (Dunedin Railway), Lieutenant F. Wallis, jun. (Coro), Lientenant C. Weils (Invercargill Muncipnl), Captain Walker (Invercargill Workshops), Lieutenant Cnest (Mosgiel), Wells (Milton), Fireman Smith (Port Chalmers), and Fireman Miles (Queenstown). The following is a summary of the annual report and balance sheet:—The executive lias pleasure in stating that the S.D.F.B.A. is still one of the strongest sub-associations in New Zealand. Five of the Dunedin suburban brigades have been disbanded and merged into the city, and it now rests largely with the country brigades to carry on, as the majority of the executive officers in the past have been drawn from the brigades in and about Dunedin. In view of the fact that this association was formed for the purpose of maintaining interest in competition work during the off year of the U.F.B.A. competitions, the executive decided not to hold a demonstration early this year owing to the U.F.B.A. competitions at Napier. The Core Brigade offered to run a demonstration in its town during Christmas Week. At the last S.D, conference, held at St. Kilda, it was suggested that this association purchase some of tlv gear used at Napier, but owing to the new conditions brought, about by the insurance companies’ grant of £• I,COO to, the U.F.B.A. (of which ££o was to go to each of the sub-associations) the question of purchasing this gear was dropped, the executive realising that when money was in hand it would bo possible to buy a more complete set of gear at a better price than that ruling at the time of the Napier demonstration. Another matter from the St. Kilda conference was the standardisation of the championship medals to bo used for nil southern districts’ demonstrations. At the last conference it was deckled that shield points count only with the first four teams placed in any event, and to count in the five-men events; First, 8 points; second, 6 points; third, 4 points; fourth, 2 points. In the three, two, and one-man events points count as follow First, 4 points -, second, 5 points ; third, 2 points; fourth, 1 point. Thu balance sheet showed the receipts to- be £55 19s Id and the expenditure £l4 10s 6d, leaving a balance of £4l 8a 7d. The report and balance sheet were adopted. A remit by the Mosgiel Brigade—“ That the secretary of the association supply all brigades with a report of all meetings of the executive at least once every six months was lust.

It was resolved that the secretary mike application for the ineuranc© companies' grant of £SO towards the expenses of the dcmoiistralion.

The secretary’s honorarium was fixed at £lO ICs.

A design of a gold medal for the championship aggregate points was submitted and approved, and the executive empowered to purchase same. It was resolved to vote £5 5s to the family of an ex-iireman who is in hospital afr'Dimedin suffering from an injury received at a fire.

The following officers were elected, for tl;o ensuing year; President, Lieutenant 0. Wells (Invercargill) ; vice-presidents— Captain A Morrison (Hillside) and Captain Walker- (Invercargill Workshops); secretary, Lieutenant Geo. Swanson (Hillside) ; treasurer, Lieutenant Haigh (Dunedin Railway); auditor, Fireman Patterson (Dunedin Railway).

It was further re,solved that tho secretary convey by letter the association’s sympathy to ex- Captain C. A. Lucas in his recent bereavement.

It was resolved that the name of past president J. A. Armit be inscribed on the merit board of the association.
