THE MAYOR’S WELCOME. The newly-elected Mayor of a country town was about to make his first journey in that capacity through the place. The townspeople had arranged that from an arch of flowers, which under he was to pass, a flora! crown should be hung surmounted by the words,“Ho well deserves U ’But the wind blew away the crown, and when tho mayor passed under the aroh, to tho great, joy of those who had voted against him, only a rope with a noose at the end of it dangled with "Ho well deserves it’ 1 standing out in bold relief above
