A farewell luncheon was given by the Lyttelton Harbor Board yesterday in honor of Mr 8. K. Sleigh, who has eat on the board for nearly five years as representative of payers of dues on ships, and of Captain A. H. Thorpe, harbor master at Lyttelton, who is retiring in a few weeks on superannuation after twenty-one Tears' service, Twelve and a-half years as harbor master, and eight and a-half as pilot. At the board's' meeting in the morning, Mr Sleigh forwarded his resignation, stating that he had been transferred by the Union Steam Ship Company from The position of manager at Christchurch to a similar post in Dunedin. Ho expressed regret at severing his connection with the board, and thanked the members and staff for the kindness and consideration they, had shown him. It was resolved to place on record the board’s appreciation of Mr, Sleigh’s services. At the luncheon, Mr Storry, in proposing Mr Sleigh's health, said that although the other member! had not always held the same views as Mr Sleigh their relations with him had never been anything but most cordial. They - regretted to lose him, but wished him every success in the future. Mr Sleigh, in reply, thanked the mentors for their good, wishes, and stated that the shipping companies intended to nominate Captain Thigh Munro (Canterbury Steam Shipping Company) as his successor.
