ANNETTE KELLERMAN
AT THE KING’S THEATRE, SATURDAY.
In a crystal tank of largo dimensions, clad in an amazingly simple costume of her own design, the world-famous Annette Kellerman will demonstrate her skill as an aquatic expert at the King s Ibeatie on Saturday, and will ho seen in a performance that has already astounded London. fascinated 1 Broadway, and won her the admiration of Paris. Reporting on .Miss Kellerraan’s opening performance m Christchurch, the ‘Press’ says: An aquatic marvel, a perfect study in physical symmetry, a ‘ movie ’ ciueen, and a thoroughly finished vaudeville artist, such are a few of the attributes of the worldfamous young Australian. Annette Kellerman made her initial bow to a New Zealand audience at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night. Her first appearance was a veritable triumph. The house was full to overflowing—in fact, it was as bis as the by-laws allow, and- would have been almost as big again had all who wished to get in obtained entrance. Christchurch audiences are. notoriously cold, or at least undemonstrative, no matter what their actual feelings may be, but those at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night let themselves loose,.’ and gave a royal reception not only to bliss Kellerman, but to her entire company. On the whole, t.icir enthusiasm was well merited. Without such triumphs as ‘A Daughter oi the Gods ’ and countless other successes to recommend her, Miss Kel!ermau_ would bo hailed immediately as a very brightly shining star in the vaudeville firmament. Her almost perfect figure, slim, but beautifully symmetrical, long ago earned for her the title of a ‘ modern Venus ; but apart altogether from her physical attraction sne has a winning stage manner, a vivacity, and a remarkable versatility which stamp her as a natural 1 giantess ’ of the boards.” Miss Kellerman will be supported by the Tivoli Follies International Vaudeville Company and Mr Stuart Barnes, an entertainer from the Palaco Theatre, New York. The box plans for the season will open at The Bristol on Thursday, at 9 a.m.
