alterations IN RULES. A meeting of the Shipwreck Relief Society of New Zealand was held yesterday afternoon. Mr C. W. Chamberlain The first business dealt with was the approvement of alterations in the rules to enable effect to be given to the desire of the committee that the society bo incorporated under the Act, 1908. The Secretary reported that he had written to the registrar submitting a copy of the society’s rules, _ and asking him to suggest alterations. The registrar had forwarded a form, and ho (the secretary) had redrafted the rules in accordance with this, and forwarded them to the registrar. In reply, a further form was sent, with a statement that it would bo necessary for the rules to be approved by a special general meeting, after which they would be submitted to the department for its approval. The rules were adopted without discussion, the society to be registered in accordance with the Act. GENERAL BUSINESS.

The Secretary submitted a financial statement of receipts and expenditure for the quarter ending November 19. It showed receipts amounting to £264 10s _sd and expenditure totalling £205 15s 3d. including relief to crews amounting to £l9O 5s 3d, . ~ . ■ The Governor-General, through his private secretary, notified that he was pleased to accept the position of patron of the society. The Prime Minister also notified acceptance of his appointment ns a vice-patron of the society. , A letter was received from Captain Atwood, superintendent of marine at Auckland, in regard to the loss of the schooner Cecilia Sudden, which was burned in the Hanraki Gulf early in September. He had supplied, on behalf of the society. £5 worth of clothing to each member of the crew (master and boy alike), and they all desired him to express their _ gratitude to the society for the help received. lie bad tried to impress upon them —at least those- who were British born—the necessity, if not duty, of all sailors to suoscribe to such a “worthy object whenever thev had a little money to spare.—The action of the sub-committeo in afforaing relief was approved. Cantnin Fleming (Auckland) wrote statin* that, owing to his retirement from the Marine Department, he was compelled to ask the committee to accept bis resignation as the society’s representative in Auckland. lie expressed sincere appreciation of the prompt manner in which the society had always met any relief suggested bv him on behalf of distressed seamen.—lt was decided that Captain Fleming’s resignation be received with regret; also that a letter of thanks be rent him for his valuable services in the past, and that lie l>e asked to continue to represent the society in Auckland in conjunction with Cm tain Atwood.—On the motion of Mr G. L. Denniston. it was resolved further to write to Captain Atwood asking him to represent the societv in Auckland in conjunction with his predecessor A letter was received from Captain Fleming in regard to the crew of the Northern Steamship fVmmnnv’s steamer Tasman, wrecked in the Bay'of Plenty about three months ago, recommending that relief In the amount of £l4O be forwarded.—The secretary reported that the sub-committee bad agreed,' and that a cheque for the amount had been forwarded. — J lie action of the sub-committee was approved. The Secretary reported that, on receipt of the news of the wreck of the Australian steamer Perth on the Grccmnutb bar on November 13. be had telegraphed to the Mayor of Grevmouth asking him if any relief was reouired for the _ vessel’s crew. A replv was received stating that an entertainment had been that no further relief was neryssmy. The crew, now on their wnv to V'-lborvue on the Pel no na. had called at his (Mr Wilsons office and steted that thev reouired singlets, and tb n sub-committee bad decided to grant £T 6s to each o’ the tvent'six men for this purpose.— the sub-com-mittee’s action was approved.
