CRICKET
• GRANGE CLUB’S ANNUAL. The forty-fourth annual meeting of lids club whs held in the pavilion, North Ground, last evening. There was a largo attendance of members and intending members. The president (Mr C. H. Wilson) congratulated the club on the form shown last season, and thanked the subscribers of trophies for the interest they had shown in the members and their thought for the welfare of the chib. The club was now on a sound" financial basis, which was very largely duo to the efforts of their hon. secretary and to the members of the various committees. He t moved the adoption of the annual report. Mr Restieaux, in seconding the motion, said great credit was due to the hon. secretary, Mr Rowlands, for the way ho had looked after their interests.
Mr G. Nelson, said the. present balancesheet was one of,, the most satisfactory they had had, and) indeed, it compared favorably with any cricket chib he had been connected with. They should have no fear for the future.
Mr C. Chadwick thought they ought to comrratulate themselves on having Mr Carlton as a coach during the coming season, and he hoped members would do their utmost to be on the ground to practise and avail themselves of the coaching. During the coming season they should trv to let the young men get into the B grade team, and allow the older men to have a team of their own.
The report having been unanimously adopted. Mr J. Robson, on behalf of the Otago Cricket Association, congratulated the club on its sound position, both financially and ns regards membership. The association was crippled financially. They had engaged a coach,, the High School was paying £75 out of the £l5O required, and he thought the other clubs in the district ought to try to make up the balance. He appealed to the Grange to do its share, and thus relieve the association of anxiety on that score, for he was sure Mr Carlton would prove a great success. The association now owed only £7O, and it was honing by means of the art union not only to wipe this nut. but to have a. substantial credit balance, so that there would be no occasion in the future to call on the guarantors.
Bishop Richards wrote expressing the pleasure he would have in beiucr a patron of the chib, and Messrs S. Dunn and G. Spiers wrote offering trophies for the best score during the coming season and for the best fieldsman.
