LONDON, August 2, It is considered certain that November 11 will ho fixed'as the date for the opening of the Conference. Although it is believed that each Power will have only one representative, the delegations are expected to be large, and to include exports on all subjects, as a great amount of detail is required. Uno Prime Minister said to-day that Llcvd George, having just sat through the whole of the Imperial Conference listening to every word that tho delegates had said about foreign affairs and Pacific questions, possessed a perfect and uncnnallcd grip of tho Dominion standpoint which was particularly fortunate at this juncture.—A*, and N.Z. Tho corresDondent of tho * New York Times ’ reports that all tho suggestions for a preliminary conference on disarmament. which were first made by England and Japan, have been, withdrawn. _ Diplomatic exchanges are now in progress concerning the date on which tho Conference will open. The United States is hopeful that the. Conference will meet not later than November,—A., and N.Z. Cable, JAPAN’S ANXIETY. TOKIO, August 2. Tho nowspaper ‘ Asahi Sliimbun ’ states that, besides the questions of Shantung and Yap and the occupation of .Siberia., Japan will insist that eighteen other matters shall como under tho head. of_ tho issues that have been settled or pertain to a single country. Tho newspaper adds that the Govamment is uncertain how these questions will bo received by tho other participants in the Conference.— A. and N.Z. Cable, NEW YORK, August 2.
Despatches received in Honolulu from Tokio state that Japan will insist that tho Disarmament Conference shall discuss tho Mexican and American questions in the cases where those matters are not settled at a preliminary conference.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
