THE AUCKLAND MURDER
TRACING THE VICTIM’S MOVEMENTS. The murder of Francis Ldward Jew at Axchhill some time between Saturday night and 11.20 o’clock on Sunday morning, was further investigated by detectives under Superintendent Wright’s personal direction .(says Tuesday’s ‘Auckland Herald ’), the day being devoted to interviewing the young men who accompanied the murdered youth to football match on Saturday and back again to Archhill subsequently. Commencing at tho point where Jew left home early on Saturday afternoon, tho detectives discovered that he and those who accompanied him to Carlaw Park made the trip to qnd from tint park in a motor car. On reaching Archhill at about 6.30 p.m., they left the motor car at fladiow terrace,” at a point within 500yds of the scene of tho murder. They then walked to tho old tram terminus, opposite Mr George Tveacy’s grocery store. The deceased went into a news agent’s shop, where he ordered a copy of a, newspaper and had a soft drink, leaving the shop shortly before 6,30 p.m. What his movements were between this hour and’ 7.30 p.m. has not yet been discovered. It is not known if ho had any’ tea that ■night, but it is stated that a friend invited him to his home for the evening meal, but be did not 'accept the invitation. At 7.30,p.m. he was seen by one of his mates to board a tramcar bound for the city, and the police h-avo reason ■to believe that he was accompanied by another mail who has not yet been'identified. This is as far as the detectives have succeeded in tracing Jew’s movements on Saturday evening. It is stated that some days must elapse before they can hope to have traced all his movements on Saturday evening. All suggestions made and : reports received have to be investigated. When this work has been completed the issue will be narrowed considerably. Bo far there is nothing to warrant suspicion being cast, upon anyone. Rumors were current in the city yesterday to the effect that an, arrest had been made, but these were groundless.
