A NEW GUN
RANGE OP 200 MILES. INVENTED BY BRITISHER. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, July 9. _ Dr Hutchinson. Mr Edison’s chief engineer, gave a a new gun which is able to hurl a five-ton projectile 200 to 300 miles, the discharge being noiseless, smokeless, and without recoil. Smokeless powder is utilised. The gnu can develop a muzzle velocity of five miles per second'. Its extraordinary powers are due to tho fact that the powder is burned, all of it being consumed before tho projectiles are discharged. The miniature specimen gun used was only Sin long, but the principle for tho greater gun will be the same. Mr Hudson Maxim declared the weapon,; to bo wonderful. Another armament export said: “It will do more eventually to bring peace than the Peace Conference, as it will make war too terrible.” Tho gun'is the invention of Mr John Temple, a Britisher.—A. and N.Z.
