BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

This Day. There were again large offerings of sheep and lambs at the Burnside sales today. The sheep, on the whole, were of good quality, and, with tho exception of medium class ewes, values were a Utile easier. Lambs wore of pas-able quality, although quite a good _ percentage wore not prime. Pigs were in moderate supplv, and prices were a little weaker. Fat cattle were also in short supply, and tho quality was not up to the usual standard. Sheep.—A largo yarding, of good quality, a total of 5.255 head being offered. Iho yarding was of b-eilor quality than lias been the case for several weeks past. There was a. fairly satisfactory sale. In the last sale of the day values were back from Is to Is 6d pci* lioad. Prime wotheis realised from 25s to 29s ml ; medium, 18s to 225; Imht and unfinished sorts from 15s upwards. Extra prime heavy-weight ewes realised up to 26s 6d : prime, 19s to 23s 6d; medium, 16s to 18s; light and aged from 10s 6d upwards. , , Lambs—A large yarding, ot fair quality, numbering 2,531 head. _ Quite a number of the lambs lacked finish. Ihe demand was not particularly keen, freezing buyers’ limits evidently having been reduced*. Sixpence halfpenny peiy pound appeared to be the basis on which freezing buyers were operating. ■ Values ranged from 15s to 25s per head. Stove Cattle.—A medium yarding was offered, and among the number were several pens of well-bred forward steers. For this class there was good competition at prices a little in advance of late rates. Competition was somewhat slack for inferior sorts, and the prices realised showed no improvement. Bigs.—A medium yarding, the bulk of which was comprised of light-weights. There was relatively only a small proportion of bacon pigs forward. The market did not show the same animation as that of last week, ami prices were easier to the extent of 5s to 7s 6d per head. Best haenners and porkers realised values equal to SRI and SRI per lb.

Fat Cattle.—A medium yarding, numbering 154 head, the quality of which was not of a high standard. Competition was keen, and prices showed an advance of 10s per head. Prime bullocks, realised up to £24 10s per head.
