.ROYAL N.Z. SOCIETY’S MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of the Committee of the Royal N.Z. Society for the Health of Women and Children was hold in the Plunket office to-day. Present—Mesdamce Johnstone (in the chair), Jos. M‘George, M'Kibbon, Theomin, J. C. M‘George, Arundel, Sidey, Champtaloup. Kelly, Aiken, K. Ross, O’Neill, Isaacs, Gallaway, Mandeno, Rattray, Jackson, Commandant ■Simpson, .Sister Nora, Professor Rawson, the Misses N. Reid, Gow, and tho secretary, MATRON’S REPORT. The matron of tho Karitane-Harris Hospital reported as under for the month ended March 31 :—Number of patients in hospital on March 31—Mothers four, babies eighteen; number of patients admitted during the month—Mothers nine, 'babies twenty; number of patients discharged during the month—Mothers seven, babies nineteen; greatest number of patients in residence on one day—Mothers four, babies twenty-four. Tho number o? nursing trainees was twenty-six. Three nurses came from Australia during the month to study as Plunket nurses—Nurses Cummins, Buisson, and Williams—the last having been granted leave of absence from her work in a baby clinic in Sydney tc come to study at tho Karitane-Harris Hospital, with a view to taking up special work for the Royal .Society for tho Welfare of Mothers and Babies of New South Wales. Nurse Muagrave commenced her course of training as a Karitane nurse during the month. A number of babies wore admitted to hospital during the month suffering from severe malnutrition. They are beginning to put on weight. Five very comfortable wooden huts, well lined and fitted with electric light, which will each accommodate two nurse students, are nearly ready for use. A high wind screen of ti-tree has been put up at the back of those huts, which also protects tho verandah of tho Mothercraft Building. During the month Miss Oltior, an Assyrian lady who has been travelling through New Zealand, attended demonstrations given in the feeding and care of a baby. A class of Girl Peace Scouts .attended a practical demonstration in bathing, clothing and hedraaking for baby. Gifts were received during the month from Mcsdames Theomin, Arundel, Miss Reid, Girl Peace Scouts Glendining Home, and Dir Sew Hoy. " , PLUNKET NURSE REPORTS,

The Plunkot Nurses for north and cen« tral districts reported for month of March : —Number of babies on the list, 671; number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 187; number of now cases for the month (babies only), 29; number of visits to homes, 399; number of visits paid to Plunkefc rooms, Stuart street, adults 222, babies 143; number of bottles of humanised milk sent out from Taiori dairy, 6,990.

The Plunket Nurse for the South Dunedin district reported as follows for month ended March 31:—Number of babies on the list, 346; number of babies breastfed (including partly), 71: number of new cases (babies only), 16; number of visits paid to homes, 240; number ol visits paid to Plunket rooms, King Edward street, adults 120, babies 115. The Plunket Nurse iu charge of Anderson Bay district and out stations reported for montft of March:—Number of babies on the list, 75; number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 42: numbcl of new cases for the month (babies only), 15; number of visits paid during th< month, 195. Since March 31 arrangements had been made for tho Plunket Nurse to bo in attendance at the Baptist Sunday school room, Mosgiel, on Tuesday afternoon of each week from 2 to 4, and at tho Currie Street Hall, Port Chalmers, every Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 4. GENERAL. Mrs M'Killop was unanimously elected a member of committee. Dr Strain wrote accepting a position as one of the honorary medical officers of tho Karitano Hospital. An interesting letter was received from the president of tho East Africa Women’s League, Nairobi, in appreciation of tha work of tho N.Z. society.
