COLLISION WITH ICICLE
An extraordinary accident happened to a Swiss express recently. The Berthoud tunnel, through which it passed, was full of icicles caused by water filtering through the earth above. The engine dashed into a great icicle and was damaged, while the driver received a terrible blow which sjcut his face and tore out one of bis eyes. Be suffered agonies, ami was covered with blood ; but he stud; to Ins post bravely, and brought the express safely to Borne. He was then taken to the hospital in a fainting condition. .Ml the passengers in the train, mostly tourists on their way to Switzerland for the winter sports, felt the shock, and believed teat a collision had taken place.
