The winner was the outsider of the field, and paid close on a third of a century. Promenade did not get a good passage in the middle stages of the race, and covered a lot of extra ground. Three furlongs from home she got up on tho rails, but failed to catch Rita Rye. Mindful and Yim Earn were beaten at the end of a mile. Albert Wallace, Rejoice, Tim Wilkin, and Proud Elsie were all beaten for pace.

At the first day of the Newmarket yeanlinf sales 105 lots realised 18,627g5. Competition was not keen, and the prices generally were below last year’s level. Mr E. J. Watt paid top price (950 gs) for an All Block —Auraria’s Daughter colt, and sCogs for a Stanton —Princess Aura filly. A Cyklon —Dcneb filly brought VOOgs, and a Welkin— Blaire filly 625g5. Mr E.
