NORTH SYDNEY MURDER

Wilfrid Ernest Coley, in a statement to the police, Irn'idetailed the circumstances of the tragedy at North tSydney on December 24. [Miss Gertrude M'Grath was found dead ia a house with, her skull fractured and with a fowcl twisted tightly around her neck. A young man had been seen to enter the bouse with the woman the same day. A reward of £2OO was offered for the arrest of Coley, for whom the police had been looking since the murder. He was arrested in Queensland on February 18, and charged with the murder. Coley was described as being between twentysix and thirty years of age, sft lOin or llin in height, of medium to slight build, fresh complexion, blue eyes, and clean shaven, with dark brown hair. He was a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces during tho war, and received a slight shrapnel scar on the right side of tho chin. He left New Zealand ns a gunner with the Fourth Reinforcements for tho Field Artillery.]
