BLOCKADING FIUME. Vw Awockdioa—By Telegraph—Copyright ROME, December 24. 'D’Annunzio has ordered -the expulsion if all strangers from Finnic. The city has inly , one week’s provisions. According to advices ‘from Fiume, D’Annunzio’s followers are divided whether to continue resistance. ■ Several clashes have occurred between the poet’s forces and the Italian regulars, but there were only a few casualties. . Many legionaries favor only passive resistance ; _ others, , more faithful to D’Annunzio, are determined ’to fight. A 'delegation of leading .citizens of Fiume visited the poet, and said the" were tired of the suffering in the beleaguered city, and asked him to arrive at an immediate peaceful solution. A Trieste message states that a large number of Government torpedo boats are cruising in the Adritic . shutting off the sea approaches to Fiume. The land* approaches are al& cut offhand heavily guarded by Government troops. It is believed that Fiume is beginning to suffer owing to lack of food. A number of legionaries deserted, fearing they would be forced to fight against their brothers,—A. and N.Z. Cable. POET WANTS TO MAKE TERMS. PARIS, December 25. The Fiume Government announces that it has. evacuated Mounts Lubian, Tomba, and other points on the frontier for tactical reasons. It is_ reported that D’Annunzio has sent 'an emissary to Rome offering to give up Quarnero, Barros, Yiglia, and Arbe, if Italy abandons immediate annexation and leaves Dalmatia alone.—A. and N.Z.
