AMERICAN POLITICS
HARDING’S CONFERENCES. PreM Association—By Telegraph-—Copyright. NEW YORK, December 21. (Received December 22, at 10 a-m.) True to his pre-election promise. Senator Harding has been consulting the best minds in the country. Since his return from Panama he has conferred with Messrs Hoover, Hughes, and Bryan, and Senators Reid, Shields, Hitchcock (a former Republican Vice-presidential candidate), Butler, and other greater or lesser political lights. Senator Harding obtained their opinions about the League of Nations, and each reiterated his already known views on American and foreign affairs. Senator Harding, howevef. did not state what conclusions he had reached after the conferences. Political writers have ventured a variety of guesses. The best opinion is that he favors an Association of Nations, the exact character of which he has not yet determined. This would indicate that Senator Harding’s pre-election position has not yet materially advanced.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
