SYDNEY, October 15. (Received October 15, at 1.5 p.m.) There is much public complaint, for, despite the fall in the price of stock during the past few weeks, the retail price of meat has not been reduced. The fall in the price of cattle within tno past fortnight has represented something like £lO per head, and the price of sheep has materially decreased, while there are big stocks of meat on hand, ine wholesale selling price of beef and mutton is 4gd to 6*d per lb. vet retail pnees remain nt lOd to Is 2d for mutton', and Is to Is 3d f or beef The Anti-profiteering Bill is having a troubled passage through the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, and is meeting with much criticism on the grounds of its anticipated ineffectiveness and unjustness in certain directions. During the debate the question arose of forestalling a nse in the price of vegetables. Mi-Storey Uremier), replying to criticisms, mentioned that he had to obtain permission from M r W. M. Hughes to import New Zealand potatoes, because the people here were trying to keep them out.
