Julv 2. _ An important judgment of the Arbitration Court was issued to-day regarding the Court's April announcement on the basic_ wage bonus. The judgment was in connection with an application to the Court by the Chiristclvurch, Tramway Union for increased wages and the bonus. Judge' Stringer*/- judgment stated' that in the tramway dispute the parties reached an agreement before the Conciliation Council, and an award was duly made. Tho Court were now invited to delete the •schedule of wages covered by the award, and to substitute a new schedule of higher wage* on the ground that the application was made in order to bring wages into conformity with the Court's pronouncement at Gisbome regarding basic wage and bonus. The pronouncement, eaict the Judge, was, however, not intended to apply to cases of special character, each as the present, where the workers had permanent employment; and the concession which the Tramway Board were paying employees (Id per hour to cover the increased.' Cost of Living), in-the opinion of the Court, was all that tho workers were entitled to.
