PRINCESS'S PLIGHT

*- PENNILESS AND TOO PRETTY. A pathetic case was heard before the tribunal at Vevey, when a Swiss hotelkeeper sued the Russian Princess Z—(the Magistrate specially asked the reporters not to publish her full name) for hotel debts amounting to £4O (says the ' Express's' correspondent). The Princess, who was dressed in deep mourning, admitted the debt, and said that she would pay later. She further explained that she was the victim of the Bolsheviks. They had killed har father, who had an income of more than £IO,OOO a year, and confiscated his large properties near Moscow, so that ehe had become penniless. The Princess, who is aged 24, showed advertisements in which she had applied for a place as a lady's companion, or even a lady's maid. She received many replies, but at interviews she was found to be too pretty and too distinguished. She is therefore still seeking employment. She added that several of her aristocratic friends who had been in a similar position had preferred suicide. The Magistrate dismissed the case, with costs.
