Mr Y. Galbraith, who has occupied the position.of manager cf the Dunedin branch of the New Zealand Shipping Company for the past six years, has resigned, and will bo succeeded hr Mr R. K. Cameron from the Kokomaru 'Bay oftice. The latter position will ho filled by Mr P. R. Fordham, formerly a member of the Dunedin staff. Mr Galbraith has accepted a position with Messrs John Mill and Co.

A pretty wedding took place at St Matthews Church today, when Miss M. P. Watson, of Dunedin, daughter of the lato Captain H. P. Watson, was given in marriage to Mr Henry Stephens, son of tho late Dr Stephens, of Edinburgh. The brido was formerly art teacher at the Technical School, and was largely responsible for tho introduction of art classes at that college. She graduated at the State School of Art, London, following initial training at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. The bride was “ given away ” by her brother. Lieutenant E. F. Watson, R-.N.R, (late of the Philomel and the auxiliary cruiser Ophir).

Ills Honor Mr Justice Sim left for Invercargill thus afternoon. Mr W. Wilkinson has been reappointed by the Government to a seat on the Otago Harbor Board. London cable message states that Professor J. T. Wilson, Challis professor of anatomy at Sydney, lias been elected to a professorship of anatomy at Cambridge. Miss Lucy F. Morland is visiting New Zealand in the interests of education, and has seen some of the schools and other education institutions in the Dominion. She has always been associated with education in England, and is on the Education Committee of-the Borough of Croydon. Miss Morland will deliver a lecture to-night in the Y.M.C.A. Hall.

Mr J, ■ C. Thomson has been appointed the representative of the Southland Education Board on the Otago University Council in place of the Hon. T. Mac Gibbon, whose term expires on July 1. The board accorded Mr Mac-Gibbon a vote of appreciation for his services while their representative on the council.

Nows is to hand that the Rev. W. L, Salter, who was on his wav home with his wife after visiting the "Baptist mission stations in Eastern Bengal, died at sea three days out from Colombo. Mr Salter was pastor of the Gnversham Baptist Church for several years, and afterwards of the church at Ashburton. It was ho who immersed the Rev. A. A. Murray, whose case has caused so much controversy in Presbyterian circles of late. Mr Salter was of a devout disposition, and _an earnest evangelist. He made a special study of the Second Advent, and was prominent in conventions for the deepening of the spiritual life. : “ Our Own ” at Hanncvirke wires that Mr Robert Gillies Thomson died there last night, aged 50. Deceased, who was a son of the late Mr Peter Thomson (for years chief proof-reader on the ‘ Otago Daily Times ), was ns a young man a reporter in Dunedin, serving in turn on each of the daily papers, and he then joined the ‘ Hansard ’ shorthand staff, lie caught a severe chill on returning from a duty trip to Samoa, and latterly had been laid up at his sister’s residence in Dnnnevirkc.

Mr L. Melroso, of the Mosgiel Post Office, leaves to-morrow for Ponsonbv to enter the telegranhists’ gallery. Mr hfelrose commenced Iris service with the post office in Mosgiel, and for the past two years has been connected with the telephone exchange, the subscribers to which will be sorry to bear of his transfer, as ho has made many friends by his unfailing courtesy both in the exchange and out of it.
