The Governor-General and the Countess of Liverpool were tendered a civic farewell at Auckland last evening. Mr Charles Holdsivorth, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, will leave New Zealand by the Niagara on a visit to the United States, and probabiy Grsat Britain. Mr John Gray, of Laidlaw and Gray., will leave by the Niagara en route for England. Mr Gray expects to be absent for 12 months. Mr Ij. A. Greig, of the Invercargill staff of the Bank of New Zealand, has. been transferred to the Wanganui branch of the bank. Mr Henry Hadlee, "of Kaikorai, has just xeceiv-jd official notification from Home that his son Sergeant-major Walter Hedlee, who was killed in France justbefore the armistice, was mentioned in a despatch from Field-marshal Sir Douglas Haig and gazetted for gallant and distinguished service in the field. The doceased was a Post Office official in Dunedin, and enlisted in October, 1915, in the Seventh Reinforcements. Sir William Lamond Allardyce, K.G.M.G., Governor-elect of Tasmania, reached* Sydney by'the Monvina on April 10. and transferred to the Moeraki, for Hobart. The new Governor has spent over 40 years in the service of the Crown in various parts of the British Dominions —25 years in Fiji, 11 in the Falkland Islands and five in the. Bahamas. Mr Abel Bowe, touring representative for E. J. Carroll's Enterprises, arrived, per express yesterday and brought with liim the Australian super-feature film, ' The Man From Kangaroo.'
