STUDENTS' SERVICE AT TRINITY CHURCH.

Last.nieht at Trinity Methodist Church the Eev."M. A. Rugby Pratt, preached to a large congregation, composed in great part of University students, on the theme 'Are Cultured Men Forsaking Christianity?' He spoke of ths attacks upon Christianity and of the claim that it is losing its hold upon the cultured and enlightened. Proceeding, he stated the aim of culture and from the moral corrosion of ancient Greece and of modern Germany he sowed the final issue of a Christ-less culture. He contended that the attitude of the truest culture to-day towards Christianity was not- one of antagonism. He instanced the somersaults 01 many materialists and secularists, and adduced evidence, to show that the outstanding intellectual giants in science, literature, politics, and other realms are men of Christian faith. He quoted Mr John Morley as saying that the end of culture was to make a man and not a cyclopedia, tcitizen and n6t a book of elegant extracts, and contended that the tß.'.e Maker of the loftiest type of manhood was Jesu3 Christ, who_ showed life at its hisrhest and holiest. During the service the church' choir gave a fine rendering of Sullivan's ' 0 Gladsome Light,' and Miss Annie Wilson sang Barnard's setir.g of ' Lead Kindly Light "* with good taste. Subsequently the Methodist students who are attending the University, to the number of over 40, were entertained at a social hour by the Trinity officers and their wives. Words of welcome were spoken by the Eev. Rugby Pratt and Mr R. S. Vanes, a recital was given bv Miss Rene Aslin, and a solo by Miss Phyllis West. Refreshments were" dispensed and social intercourse indulged in. after which the students expressed their concerted thanks to their hosts. Tho gathering concluded with " family worship " conducted bv the Eev. Rugby Piatt and Mr H. Chapman.
