ST. KILDA BEAT ROSLYN. St. Kilda and Roslyn met on Saturday evening, the former winning by 5-3. Details (names of St. Kilcla players first) : Board I.—A. "VV. 0. Davies v. O. Balk : Mr Balk had the move, and opened with a K B gambit. A brilliantly-played game followed, in which Mr Balk was successful. Board No. 2. R. A. Cleiand v. A. Ellis : This was a stubbornly contested same, which ended in a draw. Board No. 3. J. J. Marlow v. L. D. Coombs: Mr Marlow had the move, but Mr Coombs, who played a Philador's defence, obtained the attack in the middle game, and had a winning position, and Mr Marlow resigned. Board No. 4. S. S. Myers v. W. H. Allan : Mr Allan played the English opening, and a good game resulted, which ended in :i win for Mr Myers. Board No. 5. J. Stone V. Morrison : Mr Stone had the move, and soon obtained an advantage, which he forced to a win. Board No. 6. H. H. Henderson v. R. Johnston: Mr Johnston played the Ruy Lopez, but early in the game' made a mis*take, which, however, the Otago president failed to take advantage of, and a draw was agreed upon. Board No. 7.—A.
