"I asked to be rent to Pnkatoa on account _of my health," was the rather astonishing statement made by a plaintiff in a maintenance case heard in the Christchurch Magistrate's Court, when examined by an opposing counsel concerning her past. "It is a very good rest place," she continued. Counsel: '• Considering the way you are going, don't you think it is nearly time you had another rest?" "I had a ver'- pood time there," stoutly maintained the lady. ,; I enjoyed myself. I did not have to work hard. There was plenty of fancy work, and I could walk the beach for shells with no one to domineer over me!"—this with a meaning glance at her husband. Mother (to daughter, who, instead of going to church, went for a walk with her young man) : " What was the text this evening, dear?" Daughter: "Love one another."
