* THE DAVIS CUP PLAYERS. RAIN STOPS PLAY. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, March 27. The tennis match between the Englishmen and the New Zealanders was interrupted by rain after two sets of the Doubles had been played. Lowe and Beamish won the first set, 64. and Peacock and Ollivier pained the second, 7-5. The visitors showed marked superiority at the opening stages, and won the first three games. Then the New Zealanders won a game on Beamish's service, then another on Ollivier's. both by good play. The following game went to'the Englishmen, making the score 4-2. Peacock" won his service to love. The Englishmen won the next. Ollivier also won with his service, then it was Lowe's service, and the game and set went to the Englishmen, 6-4. ° In the second set the visitors jumped off with .a lead of two games, but Ollivier and Peacock settled "down, and with very good play equalised the score at three all, and established a lead on th* next game. The Englishmen equalised a* four and again at five all. Jhe New Zealanders won the next two games and the set, 7-5. At this stage play was stopped to the rain. The match is to be decided on the best of five games, and the two sets played -will not" count, the match being recommenced. B GRADE MATCHES The following matches were plaved on Saturday: Taieri (10 sets, 97 games) beat Roslvn (4 sets, 71 games). Otago (12 sets., 108 games) beat St. Andrew's (2 sets, 60 games). Anderson Bay (11 sets, 99 games) beat Cosy Dell No. 2 (3 sets. 52 games). Balmacewan (11 sets. 105 gam*s) beat St Kilda (3 sets. 60 games). Cosy Del! (8 sets. 99 games) beat Unirersjty (6 sets, 85 games). JUNIOR GAMES. Ajcherfield beat St. Dominic's 60 games —55 games. Golumba College beat Girls - High School 15 sets to 3 sets.
