DUNEDIN BAND CONTEST
The band contest to be held in Dunedin from March 1 to 6 is expected to prove tho largest event of its kind ever heid in tfic Dominion. No fewer than 28 bands have entered, including the best in .New Zealand. The test selections will be played iu His Majesty's Theatre. On Tuesday aud Wednesday evening the B grade selections will be heard, and on Thursday and Friday the A grade selections will take place. On Saturday the quickstep contest will be at the Caledonian Ground. Owing to the very large entry for the solo sections it has been necessary to engage two hails for this purpose, and these solos will be heard morning aud afternoon in His Majesty’s Theatre and Bums Mail each day in the week. On Monday morning and afternoon the cornet solos will be heard, and in the evening the trombone trios, and the four recalled for the cornet solo will play off in the finals. In connection with the'contest a pipe band competition is also being held. This will take place on the Caledonian Ground on March 6. Mr Percy Jones, adjudicator, is a man of very high standard.
