BUSINESS LEAGUE OF NATIONS
STARTED IN U.S.A. A decision of the greatest importance to the world's business was arrived at by the International Trade Conference at AtlanticCity, when they adopted a scheme for the formation of a permanent organisation which, in effect, will be a Business League of Nations. The conference occupied themselves by setting in motion the machinery of organisation, the full purpose of which is contained in a declaration of principles adopted by all delegates to the conference. It is: "To promote international commerce, facilitate commercial intercourse of nations, seenre harmony of acticn in all international questions involving commerce and industry, and to promote peace and progress by cordi".l relations between countries and.their cit'zens by tho co-operation of-business men and their associations-de-voted to the development of commerce and .industry.'" It was further agreed that no nation may belong to the Business League which is not a member of the League of Nations. This is interpreted in New York as a general endorsement of tho League ot Nations Covenant by the business men of the world. Several members of the British delegation took part in tho discissions of the shipping group. Sir Arthur Shirley Benn, M.P'., urged the freedom of the shipping of the world from Government control at the earliest possible moment, and Sir James Simpson dwelt on tho desirability ot co-operation b:tuoeu Britain and the United States in shipping matters.
