THE LABOR PARTY

A GREAT OPPORTUNITY. [From Otis Spfcial CofiBESPONDENT.I WELLINGTON, July 3. In his address to the conference of the New Zealand Labor party yesterday, tho Hon. J. T. Paul, the president, stated thar- the Labor party had completed a l-ei-otd year in activity, results, and en-thu.-iaMu. His opinion wa-s that this was t)v hour of Labor's opportunity such as might uot occur again m the lifetime of the delegates. The party were stronger than ever before. The conference should deal with questions from a practical point -.if view. The Labor party; could do_a great service to the country, because the application of a Labor policy was the only possible method of solving certain present difficulties. The coal crisis was e. cass in point. The Labor policy as to coal production, transportation, and distribution was the only way to relieve the preset difficulty. He urg-ed the _ delegates to realise their great responsibility and opportunity to serve the country. _ The " bogy man'" would soon appear in full dress, and perhaps in many dresses, and the conference should not give their political enemies material fon attack. [F» Dmitsd Pmss Association] WELLINGTON, July 3. The Hon. J. T. Paid was re-elected president. The following amendment to the constitution was adopted :—" The executive shall consist of a president, vice-president, see-rcetary-treasureir, land committee o£ 12.
