KIWI DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB

A pleasant social function was held by tho Kiwi Defence Bine Club in the Warafcah. tea rooms last evening. The occasion was tho presentation of prizes for tho 1918-19 season. There was a large gathering of •club members and their friends; tho Dunediin Rifle Club was also represented. Apologias wore received from Colonel E. It. Smith, Captain Proud-foot, and various prize donors, who were unable to be present. The 'first part of tho evening was devoted to pnogxeerive euchre, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the partiopante. After the distribution of prizes and supper the room was cleared and dancing inid'uilged in till a loto hour. The President (Captain A - Dempster), in presenting tho prizes, stated that tho club wore .represented at the war by 15 members. The wotrvo list of the club contained 50 members, tho majority being married men, so they had had a good percentage on active service. One of their members" Rifleman Greenfield, who wont away with the Main Body, had been killed at tho landing ait G-alipoli, while several "had 'been wounded, and had now happily recovered. Riflemen Keys, F&rr, and Sim had gained Military Medals. Captain Dempster went on to' say that at tho recent meeft'ins? of tho Otoixo Rifle Association 15 members of the olub competed Rnd carried off tho .teams' match. Rifloman M'Koich was rmmcr-iip for iihe championship, and Rifleman Parsons and Gillick were fourth and; fifth hi the aggregate. Tho following is a list of the prize winners :-— No. 1 Match : Rifleman Burgess 1, Rifleman Parsons 2. No. 2 Match : Rifloman Gillick 1, Rifleman Parsons 2. No. 3 Match : Rifleman Johnston 1, Rifleman Fletcher 2. No. 4, Greenfield Memorial fservioe conditions) : Rifleman Clapshaw 1, Rifleman M'Keioh. 2. No. 5 Match : Rifleman Gillick 1, Rifleman M'Keioh 2. No. 6 Mutch : Rifleman Gillick 1, Rifleman M'Keioh 2. No. 7 Match : Rifleman Johnston 1, Rifleman Parsons 2.
