Hall The Town Clerk of Dunedin -wrote, in reply to the council's letter of June 21, in relation to the question cf used tram tickets being scattered about the streets, stating that it had been decided to discontinue the practise of sweeping out the tramoars at the St. Hilda terminus.— The letter v.-.-va received. A letter was received from the secretary of the St. Hilda Fire Brigade stating that the St. Hilda Cricket Club had granted the brigade the nee of Gulling Park for the purpose of holding a demonstration at Christmas time, —The letter was received, and referred to the Fire Brigade Committee to report upon. The Works Committee recommended that tenders ho' called to? repairs to the Queen’s Drive, according to specifications to bo submitted, materials to bo supplied from Musselburgh quarry, and the contractor to do the quarrying j that the inspector be authorised to patch ail the streets in the borough requiring repairs, the work be done with rotten rock and raetai; that the footpath at the foot_ of Bowen street bo made passable at a minimum cost. —The clause referring to repairs to the Queen’s Drive was referred back to the committee for further consideration, and the rest of the report was adopted. The Fire Brigade Committee reported that a deputation from the brigade had waited on tlie committee with reference to certain matters pertaining to the efficient working of the brigade, and as a result of the conference the committee decided on the following recommendations: —That the Town Clerk be instructed toallow Mr C. Stewart to warm up the motor twice daily during the winter mouths: that the motor-house door be converted into a double door, to open outwards: that a fire plug be put in Ings avenue opposite the late Mr C. N. Scurrs property; shat 250 ft of huso bo purchased for fire-fighting purposes at the farthest end of Allied street; that the fence at tile Alexandra Dark bo removed book to allow of free access ho the plug; that the council request the Domain Board to keep the lupines back at least 20ft from the properties situated cn the sandhills,—The report was adopted, with the exception of clause 2, which was referred back to the committee for further consideration. Tiie Finance Committee recommended that Mr James Eae be granted the. use of the Coronation Hail for a picture entertainment four nights a week, at a rental of £1 per night, on. condition that the picture proprietors waived their right to any particular night if the hall was urgently required either by the council or private individual, the rental for such booking to bo remitted; also that a subcommittee consisting of the chairmen of the various committees he appointed to draw up an agreement between the council and the picture proprietors. The committee also recommended that the appointment of a delegate to the Municipal Conference be held over till the agenda paper was received; that Mr M. Stevenson’s offer kteaipply the best rotten reck from HiueVs quarry at 6s per load be accepted ; that accounts amounting to £7ll 17s 8d bo passed for payment.—The report was adopted.
