Latest advices received by the Union Gompanv concerning the R.M-S. Makura state that the vessel was expected to leave Vancouver to-day for Honolulu, Suva, and Auckland. She should arrive at the latter port about July 19. NEW STEAMER WAIBUNA. The Union Company’s new cargo steamer Wairuna arrived at Antofogasta on June 25 from Valparaiso, and was to have sailed again on June 27 for San Francisco. She will load at the latter port for Auckland, Sydney, and Melbourne. STELLA, FROM AUCKLAND. The Stella arrived at Dunedin early this morning from Auckland direct alter a rough trip of over six days. The vessel left the northern port at ll p.m. on Tuesday last, and bad fine weather until reaching the East Cape, when she encountered a strong south-east gale and heavy seas. As the Stella could make very little headway the master decided to return to the [ East Cape, where she sheltered fox several hours on Thursday. The voyage was resumed on Friday, and the steamer had to i contend with a heavy swell for the remainder of the voyage. She brought 200 tons of scrap iron and 10 tone of sugar. - On completion of discharge the Stella will load for Wellington and West-port. PALOONA FROM SAN FRANCISCO. Tire R.M.'S. Paloona arrived in the stream at Wellington at _4 p.m. yesterday ! from San Francisco via Papeete and I Rarotonga. There launched in April from the Javrow shipyard of Messrs Paimere' .‘-■hipbuilding and Iren Company, Ltd., the steamer Surrey, to the older of the Federal Steam Navigation Company. The Surrey is the second ship built for the • ompanv by Messrs Palmers, the first bring the Kent, delivered last year. The Surrey is a single-screw geared turbine steamer. Length b.p. 460 ft., breadth (extreme) 62ft 9in, depth (moulded to upper deck) 29ft B|in. Site will carry about 11,550 tone deadweight. She was built of steel to class 100 A 1 Lloyda, having three complete deck®, including shelter ! deck with bridge and forecastle, and a cruiser stern. Most of her holds In the j ’tween and lower decks were insulated for carrying meat. Provision was made | for carrying oil fuel in tlte _ double bottem, fitted up complete with sanction pipes and -heating coils. A very complete system of derrick was to be installed.
