WEST HARBOUR COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the West Harbor Borough Council was held last night, the, -Mayor (Mr 11. E. Moller) presiding over a fall table of councillors.
Tin. Mayor welcomed councillors, both, old and now members, and congratulated Mr Larnach on his well-deserved victories in the L-uneuin elections. The City Electrical Engineer wrote stating that "a new street lamp would be erected near Mr Wise's property. Burkes. —'Received. The Paimerstou North Chamber cf Commerce wrote that the time had arrived when the Government should control the main arterial roads of the Dominion, with a view to the formation of permanent- highways, and urged that Ml local bodies cooperate ill the work "f putting the mnin arterial roads in such permanent condition m respect to the surface and width as to carry with safety the rapidly-increasing number of power-driven vehicles.—lt was decided to give the Chamber of Commerce the heart Ist- support in the matter.
The Otago Motor Club wrote inviting the Mayor "and councillors to a conference (to be held in Dunedin this month) to consider Mr Couston's report on road-making in the Dominion. —It was decided that the Mayor, Town Clerk, and as many councillors as possible should attend. The Town Clerk, Dune-dim in answer to a suggestion that the trams should be extended to the borough, stated that the Tramways Committee regretted that, under the present circumstances, it was not possible' to consider the proposal.—Received. The Finame Committee reported receipts for the month totalled £222 5s Bd. and the expenditure io £124 15:- sd. Adopted.
The Works Committee's report- was adopted. In speaking on the report Cr Harridge s,i;-.i he -thought many of the footpatiis were suitable for tarring and sanriinsz instead of beinc spread with screenings —Cr Robb said tho streets were not- kept" clean. —The Mayor disagreed with this ~tau-meur. anil said that it the streets were not dean it was about time the Health Dcpaitmemt attended to the- people who caused the uneieankuess.
