PEACE CELEBRATIONS
I The Mayor of Wellington yesterday received from the Mayors of Auckland, Chrjstrhurch, and Dunedin replies to the suggestion that the Government should give local bodies 10 days' notice of the date for commencing the peace celebrations. The Mayor of Auckland advised that he had informed the Acting Prime Minister that it- would be impossible for Auckland to comply with the Government's suggestions unless at least 10 days' notice was given. He had asked whether the Government would consider the desirableness of co-operation with other parts of the Empire to render the celebrations concurrent if possible. The Mayor of Christchurch was in agreement with the suggestion that there should be 10 days' notice. The Mayor of Dunedin said that no dissatisfaction had been expressed there regarding the Government proposals. Personally, he considered it would be unwise to alter them.
