THE RAINFALL
Orcr Cromwell correspondent wires: The period of extremely warm weather which prevailed during tho holiday season broke yesterday, with mild rain showers throughout the district. Unsettled conditions still prevail, and during the nidit nf 1 * 6 heavy downfall generally. The change was decidedly opportune, aa temporary suspension of harvesting and shearing will be more than compensated for by tho direct benefit to the turnip crops, tho outlook for which was becoming serious. The rivers have so far only risen slightly, and a high level does not seem imminent unless an additional fall prevails. There is great activity in the wool and grain-producing districts, heavy clips and big yields being the order. Mild rain is still falling.
