CITY POLICE COUET. (Before H. A. Young, Esq., S.M,) Drunkenness.—Arthur Henry Reeves, on remand, was ordered to pay £1 18s expenses cr seven days. . Fined.—Sinclair MTntosb, charged with casting offensive matter in Manse- street, was fined £3 and costs (7s). Prohibited. Price, a prohibited person, pleaded guilty to procuring liquor. Robert Gordon Mahone was charged with assisting Elizabeth Jane Rackley, a prohibited person, to drink liquor. He did not appear—Constable Peters said he found Price, Mshono, and Racklcy ail, drunk in a Ihouso.—Price was fined 20s and costs (7s), and Mahono the maximum sum —£lo and costs (,7s). On a similar charge, adjourned from November last, Price was fined 10s and costs (7s). —Rackley, who was also charged with procuring liquor, refused to bo served with the summons, and a warrant was issued for hejr arrest. By-law Cases.—For riding a motor cycle on the wrong side of the street at Caversham, Richard Twining was fined 10s and costs (7s). Robert Joseph Norman, for driving a motor car at a speed dangerous to the public on the Mam South road, Oaversham (SO miles an hour, the police said) was fined 20r and costs- (7s). Ho said the spedometer Showed only 20 miles. Six o’Clock Closing.—Horace George Shadwell and Horace Boland pleaded guilty to being found in the Criterion Hotel at an hour when tho hotel was required to be closed.—Sub-inspector Matlueson said that at 8.20 p.m. on tho 21st December, Sergeant Bolton went into the hotel,' and found' these rfien on the premises'. They said they had gone in for tea. Inquiries showed that Mrs Murphy did not think they were there for tea. In the part of the premises they came from there were found four empty glasses, which had contained liquor. The police wore not satisfied that tho men were there for a legitimate purpose.—Defendants, giving evidence, stated that they went in for tea at 7.15, and were delayed on the premises by one of them afterwards getting into conversation with some of the employees. They denied that they were there for any' illegal purpose.—Each was. fined £2 and costs (7s). Alleged Sly Grog-selling.—Maurice Langley and Maud Langley were charged with supplying beer without a license.—On tho application of Mr Irwin, for the defen--dants, the case was adjourned ?or a week. A Prohibited Person.—Angus Pringle was cliarged,. on two -informations, with being found on licensed premises, and was fined 10s and costs (7s) on each charge.
