MINING
The Rise and Shine No. 1 dredge recommenced work on January 2. The ground continued deep, with a stiff clay bottom, carrying no wash. The cut is being extended to the westward, where it is hoped to get better ground. No. 2 dredge continued to open out ground of an average depth of 30ft«. Better-looking wash, carrying fair prospects, was coming in on a. bottom of soft red reef.
