The Admiralty' supplies the following figures of shipping for the week as relating to submarines, which compare with the previous week as shown:— Oct. 6. Oct. 13. Arrivals for week ~ 2,519 2,124 Departures for week ... 2,632 2,094 Vessels over 1,600 tons sunk 14 12 /Vessels under 1,600 ton 3 sunk 2 6 "Unsuccessfully attacked 3 5 The Italian arrivals for the week totalled 315, and the departures 328. Four steam- ' era under 1,500 tons were sunk, and two vessels unsuccessfully attacked. 'CHRISTIANIA, October 17. The Themis, 7,402 tons, Norway's largest steamer, was torpedoed in the Mediterranean Sea, and a sailing vessel, the Bethel, was sunk in the North. Sea. The crews of both are missing.
