TO OPERATE~IN PALESTINE.' The War Office has decided to organise a Jewish division or a brigade, and the work will be undertaken by Lieutenantcolonel J. H. Patterson, D.5.0., an Irishman, who commanded a similar coqis of Jewish mule-drivers who dtd excellent service at Gallipoli. /m 1^ 1353 been est 'mated that there are 40,000 Jews in the British Armv, in eluding 8,000 colonials. About 30.000 are on foreign service. It has been recognise! by the authorities that considerable difficulties presented themselves during the recruiting campaigns in East' London, and since the establishment of compulsory service it hns been found almost impossible to absorb this element into English recipients. It is intended to employ the Jewish force in Palestine. Their religious convictions, will be considered 'in every way. They will have their own cooks and baker's and their dietary will be in conformity with Jewish ideals.
