DAY OF NATIONAL PRAYER.

The united service held in the Lawrence Town Hall on Saturday afternoon was very largely attended, close on 400 people taking part. Tho Rev. W. Uphill (Anglican) presided. Following the singing of a portion of Psalm xlvi., the Rev. S. Griffiths (Methodist, of Dunedin) led in prayer, and thereafter verses 16-23 of Psalm Ixv were read by the Rev. S. Keen (Methodist). The hymn (by John Oxenham) ' For The Men At The Front' was sung, and then the Rev. P. C. Durward (Presbyterian) Toad verses 10-18 of Ephe-sia-ns vi. An anthem 'Turn Thy Face From My Sins' by the choir was followed by a stirring and thoughtful address delivered by the 1 chairman, who based his remarks on portion of verse 4, Nehemiah ii. : " So I prayed to the God of Heaven," setting up a. strong plea for a greater and more sincere recognition of the God above to aid us in the fight against our foe 3, who regarded not treaties between nations, who wantonly massacred non-combatants, caring not for helpless women and children, and who trampled under foot all that was held as sacred by Christian people. In our warfare Against such a foe, it was our solemn duty to turn to God and pray to him in the Tight spirit for victory. The service was brought to a close with Kipling's ' Recessional' and the pronouncement of tho Benediction by the Rev. Mr Durward. The choir was strong in numbers anlkmost capablv con-ducted-by Mr A. L. "King. The service throughout was of a bright and inspiring nature and most heartv. A collection (amounting to £7) was taken up on behalf of the Chaplain's Fund.—Our Correspondent.
