PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD

The monthly meeting yesterday, afternoon was attended by Messrs H. Allan Chairman), Hellyer, Taverner, Moss, Geary, Hall, Hiiudey, Bowles. CORRESPONDENCE. Tho Auditor-General forwarded the Board's balance sheet for the past year, and being in order it was duly approved.—Adopted. From Mr L. 0. Beal, Ivanhoe, and several others asking for repairs, as promised, to the Doon road as far up as Milne’s.—Members of subdivision to attend to matter. From Mr A. Clark stating that he would be pleased to lower, as requested, the height of his hedge at Hooper’s Inlet if it were damaging the road, and he hoped the board would treat in a similar spirit the damage he had sustained through the tide being dammed back in front of his house.—Received. In respect to the claim for compensation by tho trustees of the Clark estate, re road deviation at Hooper’s Inlet hill, the Chairman said the trustees valuation of the land was made on the 'basis of building sections. One Section had been sold as a building site. ' The board after hearing the chairman’s statement resolved that tho matter go. to the Assessment Court, unless the trustees "were prepared to accept the board’s previous offer. Mr Taverner in submitting the monthly statement of receipts’ and expenditure stated that the board’s finances were in a better state at the present time than they had been at this time ;of the year for the past , four years.- . Mr,. Geary said that the roads were never in a worse state than at present,' and Mr Taverner admited there was something m that, The chairman then stated that the board were unable to obtain the cartage and labor needed to keep the roads m repair. In one instance the delay amounted to six months and the work was not yet done.
